The Girls Middle School Basketball team is headed to the championship game for the first time in Central Academy history! Their first playoff game, against Muslim International Acadmey (MIA), was on Tuesday, November 1. The girls played and worked hard, listened well and had amazing team chemistry. The final score was 49-1. Leyana Nemer scored a buzzer beater, 3-point shot! Leyana Nemer led that team with a total of 29 points. Other scorers included: Tala Alessawy with 8 points, Taleen Alessawy 6 points, Ayah Hammoudah 4 points, and Dalia Thabateh with 2. These girls showed up - to play, to win, and to continue their season.

The second playoff game was also played at Central Academy on Thursday, November 3rd against Tipton Academy. As second playoff rounds go, the competition was tougher. In addition, some of our Falcon players were sick, one of the players said “It was the hardest basketball game I have ever played. I just didn’t feel good” The score was close for most of the game, but the Falcons always maintained the lead. Our girls did not let up, in their true Falcon fierceness, they fought, winning jump balls, making steals, and pushing on fast breaks.

The girls won with the final score of 28-17. Leyana Nemer led the way with 17 points. Tala Alessawy had 4 points, Ayah Hammoudeh, Taleen Alessawy, and Hawa Kaba all had 2 points. The entire gym celebrated their history making win!

The girls will play in the championship game on Monday, November 7th against Wise Academy. Both teams are undefeated and the game will be played at a neutral location for both teams. Fans and families can come support our fierce Falcons at Dearborn Academy at 5pm. Look out for the falcons on Monday. GO FALCONS!!
